Future Proof Foundations

ICF Insulated Rafts

Welcome to the next generation of construction technology. ICF Rafts provide a robust, insulated, and cost-effective solution for your foundation needs. Whether you’re building a home, commercial property, or industrial facility, ICF Rafts deliver unparalleled strength.  A raft is a ground bearing, steel reinforced concrete pad traditionally shuttered using timber, which acts as a load spreading foundation system.  Used for all many of construction projects, a raft could be specified for a wide number of reasons but often to solve engineering problems with traditional strip footings.  An insulated raft is identical however the insulation used acts as both shuttering during the build phase and insulation during the built phase.

At ICF Cornwall, we specialise in providing cutting-edge ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) raft foundations that revolutionise the construction process. Designed for strength, efficiency, and sustainability, ICF Rafts are the ideal solution for modern building projects.

ICF Rafts are an innovative foundation system that combines the benefits of insulated concrete forms with a raft slab design. This system uses high-performance polystyrene blocks to create a mold for reinforced concrete, resulting in a foundation that is both structurally sound and highly insulated.

Energy efficient construction. It has the greatest influence on a building’s internal temperature so therefore plays a major role in reducing heating costs. That’s why there are special types of insulating materials available for every application.

Regardless whether you require comprehensive insulation for low-energy, energy-plus or PassivHaus developments it is important that the foundations, outer walls, windows and roof work together to provide a prime building envelope.

What are the benefits of ICF Rafts?

  • Superior Energy Efficiency

ICF Rafts offer exceptional thermal performance, reducing energy loss and lowering heating and cooling costs. With insulation integrated into the foundation, your building maintains consistent indoor temperatures year-round.

  • Fast and Efficient Installation

The modular design of ICF blocks simplifies the construction process, reducing labor time and costs. Projects are completed faster without compromising quality.

  • Unmatched Strength and Durability

Reinforced concrete provides a solid and stable base, capable of withstanding heavy loads and environmental stress. This makes ICF Rafts ideal for areas with challenging soil conditions or extreme weather.

  • Eco-Friendly Solution

By improving energy efficiency and reducing material waste, ICF Rafts contribute to a greener, more sustainable future. Lower energy usage means a reduced carbon footprint for your building.

Products that we supply

The follow links are to the manufacturer's of all the products that we can supply and fit. Each manufacturer has readily available technical specifications, performance values and certificates including BBA, LABC and NHBC documentation. Each site also has all the information necessary for designers, specifiers and engineers.

How does the cost of ICF compare to traditional construction?

The upfront cost of ICF construction is typically 5-10% higher than traditional methods. However, the long-term savings on energy, maintenance, and insurance often make it more cost-effective over time.

Are there design limitations with ICF?

ICF construction is highly versatile and supports a wide range of designs. Architects and engineers familiar with ICF can create complex, custom designs, including curved walls and multi-story buildings.

Are ICF walls fire-resistant?

Yes, ICF walls are highly fire-resistant. The concrete core provides excellent fire protection, and the foam forms used in ICF construction are treated to resist ignition and minimize flame spread. This makes ICF structures safer in fire-prone areas and can contribute to enhanced safety and lower insurance costs. When finished both sides with 12.5mm plasterboard ICF achieves a 4 hour fire rating.

Is ICF construction environmentally friendly?

Yes, ICF construction is considered environmentally friendly due to:

  • Reduced energy consumption over the building’s lifetime.
  • Durable materials that reduce waste.
  • Compatibility with sustainable building practices like solar energy integration.
